Questions
Does this tool tell me if my car is covered by the engine settlement?
No tool outside Hyundai, Kia or the settlement administrator can confirm coverage. We compare your decoded model, year and engine with the published class-vehicle lists and tell you whether you may be eligible, then link to the official lookup to confirm.
Why does it say "recalls for this model year" instead of "open recalls on my VIN"?
NHTSA's public API lists recalls by make, model and year. Whether a specific recall has been done on your car is only available through the VIN lookups at NHTSA, Hyundai and Kia, which we link to in your results.
Where does "mileage mentioned" come from?
NHTSA complaint records don't include an odometer field in the public API. We read mileage that owners typed into their complaint text (for example "at 97,000 miles"). It's a rough signal from a small sample, not a statistic.
Is my VIN stored?
No. Your browser sends the VIN straight to NHTSA's public API. We don't store it unless you sign up for alerts.
